AWLC - The American Women's Literary Club

Learn, Care, Share!

Welcome!

Whether you are new to Lima, or an old hand at its marvelous quirks, the AWLC would like to warmly welcome you.

We have a long tradition as a premier English-speaking women's club in Peru. Not only do we have a fascinating history to share, but we continue to evolve and reflect our members' diverse interests.  We enjoy new ideas and encourage people to share their passions and enthusiasm with us.

We hope that you will become our newest member. Scroll through our web pages to learn more about who we are and what we care about, including the 'Membership' page on how to become a member.  We look forward to welcoming you to our circle.

Come get to know us by attending our monthly General Meeting as a guest, usually on the 1st Monday of the month.  If you would like to attend as a guest, please let us know in advance by writing us at awlcinperu@gmail.com.  Guests pay a S/35.00 fee to cover refreshments.

Our Mission and History

We provide intellectual and cultural exchange for English-speaking women of diverse backgrounds and interests in an atmosphere of friendship.

The American Women's Literary Club (AWLC) was founded in 1922 in Lima by a small group of women who were interested in literature and the arts, as well as in deepening their understanding of their host country, Peru.

Our members are English-speaking women from many different nationalities, ages, professions, interests and personalities. Some of our members are residents in Peru for limited periods of time and some reside here on a permanent basis.

Over the years, the Club has grown to include various activities and it continues to evolve, along with our membership. Our signature event is our annual 'Noche de Musica', but we also host several other charity fundraising events, and sponsor monthly Outings, Speakers, Book groups, and support for our members.

We are very proud of our library of English-language books for use by our members.  We are also very proud of our useful Cookbook which members take with them in their next destination or as gifts for friends.
