Our Mission and History

We provide intellectual and cultural exchange for English-speaking women of diverse backgrounds and interests in an atmosphere of friendship.

The American Women's Literary Club (AWLC) was founded in 1922 in Lima by a small group of women who were interested in literature and the arts, as well as in deepening their understanding of their host country, Peru.

Our members are English-speaking women from many different nationalities, ages, professions, interests and personalities. Some of our members are residents in Peru for limited periods of time and some reside here on a permanent basis.

Over the years, the Club has grown to include various activities and it continues to evolve-- along with our membership. Our signature event is our annual 'Noche de Musica', but we also host several other charity fundraising events, and sponsor monthly Outings, Speakers, Book groups, and support for our members.

We are very proud of our extensive library of English-language books for use by our members and have sold many copies of our useful Cookbook all over the world.
